code room
Did you ever hide in the nook under the stairs? Duck in, hear yourself breathe. Certain rooms hold space for only one person, yet you are not alone. The reading eye replicates itself. Feel how the mind moves with the eye, making everything mean something. Did you ever see a line of ants or birds or sticks or stars, aligning themselves into an almost-language? Did you ever watch the action of your mind, encoding and decoding itself? Sit in this chair. Take the little book, eat it up. You are being watched. You know nothing and it is going to be ok. You have left messages for yourself everywhere.
I installed Code Room in the Under Stairs Gallery at Ro2 Art in August, 2019. It remained until January, 2021. The Zine Machine held 12 zines by artist/writer friends who had explored the idea of code. Visitors took their seat in the little chair, dropped a quarter into the slot, and turned the knob to receive a zine. They sat in the dimly lit space to read it, and took it home. Below is a peek at the zines. Many thanks to the contributors.
